FAQ

What is BandSoc?

Liverpool University Band Society (BandSoc) is the place to go if you enjoy playing or listening to live music.

We organise social events revolved around music and we put on our gigs at venues in Liverpool. We also have a practice room in the Guild that is free to use for BandSoc members!

How do I join BandSoc?

To join the society, go to the Guild website and login or sign up, then find BandSoc and click purchase a membership (it's free).

How do I use the free practice room?

To use our practice room you must be a member of the society and be a University of Liverpool student.

To book, go into the Guild reception or give them a call and have your student ID number on-hand. Bookings for the week start on Mondays meaning you cannot book a week in advance, and you've got to be quick as the room fills up fast! Most students will contact the Guild reception to book at around 9am on a Monday when the Guild opens.

Bookings are 2 hours long. When your booking starts, head to the Guild reception to collect the key - you will be asked to hand in your student ID. When your booking ends, return the key to reception and retrieve your ID.

Where is the practice room?

To get to the practice room from reception, head through the door in the back right of the room. After you find yourself in a small circular room, head through the door that's across the hall and slightly to the right (not the fire door!) and go down the corridor past the toilets and big Starbucks window until you reach a large staircase. Take the stairs down and go through the doors to your left. The band room is on your right.

To access the practice room from the main corridor (also known as The Street), look for a single door in the middle of the corridor on the wall opposite The Courtyard that leads to a large stairwell and take the stairs down. Go through the doors on your left and the band room is on your right.

You'll get used to it eventually and find a miriad of different ways you can access it.

Where is The Cellar?

The Cellar is our on-site venue for gigs. It is very close to the band room so use the above as a guide.

After you've gone down the large staircase, take a right instead of left and head through the doors and follow the corridor until you reach the venue.

What events do you host?

We host social events and gigs. The social events will usually include some kind of theme (disco, 80s, Woodstock etc.), although we do have other social events that are just simple meet-ups.

We also have recurring events that we attend. Every Tuesday at 8pm we meet at The Scholar for open mic night hosted by LJMU Music Society, which is great fun and a favourite of BandSoc members. If you want to perform you do not need to bring a guitar but feel free to bring your own if you want.

On the first Wednesday of every month, we attend UoL Music Society's monthly open stage night at 7pm in The Cellar. If you would like to perfor with your band just come down with your instruments!
